I think I knew who Jane Austen was before I could walk.
My Gram was a retired English professor who taught me my love of words. We sat in her kitchen reading story after story, and as I grew older, she regaled me with her life spent immersed in books and the unapologetic women who wrote them. It was Gram who first showed me that writing wasn’t a choice between passion and career.
If she could see me now, she would probably be horrified at copywriting’s exceedingly casual relationship with grammar. But, I think she’d be happy to see me writing by day and reading “The Autobiography of Gucci Mane" by night.
